Advisory Board

The National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Advisory Board provides independent advice to the U.S. government on GPS-related policy, planning, program management, and funding profiles in relation to the current state of national and international satellite navigation services.

The Advisory Board consists of 29 GPS experts from outside the U.S. government representing U.S. industry, academia and international organizations. The Chairman of the Advisory Board is Admiral Thad W. Allen, USCG, Ret.

The Advisory Board meets twice a year. Its meetings are open to the public. Previous meetings can be found here.

Tasked with reporting on STEM and future PNT workforce issues and GNSS science applications (radio occultation, surface reflectometry, natural hazards warning, etc.).

Emerging Capabilities, Applications & Sectors Subcommittee

Tasked with reporting on GNSS High Accuracy Services, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Integrated Energy Grid Concept, Positive Train Control, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Comm. Networks, MEOSAR (Medium Earth Orbit Search & Rescue), Cislunar Service Volume

International Engagement Subcommittee

Tasked with reporting on interfacing with international community (ICG, etc.), pursuing GNSS compatibility & interoperability, GNSS service & performance gaps vs. synergies, and collaboration vs. competition

Protect, Toughen & Augment Subcommittee

Tasked with protecting transparent & balanced spectrum management, toughening while ensuring ITAR does not unduly constrain civil & commercial interests, and augmenting GDGPS, Complementary PNT and GNSS Signal Monitoring.

Strategy, Policy & Governance Subcommittee

Tasked with PNT policy implementation within Executive Branch, legislative solutions and U.S. interagency collaboration.
